My name is Kathryn McCallum Osgood, and I’m the woman behind Little Bear Photography, but you can call me Kathy. I’m a Florida native and UF graduate who moved to Chicago in 2011. I have 16 years of experience with photography, a BS in advertising, and an extensive background in graphic design. I have an amazing husband and two boys (#boymom). We also have a naughty little dog named Eva who lives with us, and she steals all our food. Over the past summer, we made the move out to the suburbs and settled in Glen Ellyn.
My focus is on family, newborn, babies, children, and maternity photography in Chicago and the surrounding Chicagoland area.
I am primarily a natural light photographer, and I am happiest scheduling you early morning near sunrise, or late afternoon/evening at sunset when the light is most beautiful. My style can be described as authentic, playful, and whimsical, with an emphasis on fine-art editing.
Having young children myself, I LOVE spending time and playing with all the kids I get to meet! Making authentic connections is what makes your photographs amazing, and it’s something I spend extra time doing to ensure your children feel safe opening up and being themselves during our session. I work to ONLY get authentic expressions, smiles, and moments. It’s not unusual for your little ones to end up holding my hand and asking me to keep playing at the end of the session. <3 What I hear time and time again is how much families appreciate my patience, and how I can get amazing photographs of children who are not necessarily thrilled to be there at first. Be prepared to laugh, play games, and have adventures during your session with me.
In order to give you the best photographs possible, I spend time working with you before your session to determine the best location, the types of outfits that will work best, and to help decide what style shots will make you happiest. I offer a variety of posed and editorial sessions, but also see the beauty in everyday moments, in order to best serve the needs of your family.
Photography to me is more than just making pretty pictures. It’s creating memories and genuine moments that will last well into our golden years, and be a gift to our grandchildren. Every family has a story, and it’s special because it’s yours.
